WHERE SHOULD OUR ALLEGIANCE BE?
by Donna Gaye Finley

I love this land and this creation that God has given to us.  But my allegiance is not to this creation or its people.  My allegiance is to the Creator of this land, who is also the Creator of its people.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist (Col 1:15-17 (KJV).

A Christian’s first allegiance should be to their citizenship in heaven, because we are children and citizens of the Kingdom of God.

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ (Phil 3:20(NIV).

Because my allegiance is to God and Jesus Christ and they are before all things, I will keep their Ten Commandments which teach us how to love God and our fellowman.

14  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself  (Gal. 5:14 (KJV).

My allegiance is to God and Jesus Christ who give us all good things.  It is not to a human government, who legalizes immoral acts such as, taking the life of an unborn child.  God says in Romans 8:6-7:

6   For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7   Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.(KJV)

Let’s face it our political leaders are carnally minded.  God is the only one we can trust to lead us to true freedom.  This is not a nation under God.  If it were, it would not be working to remove God and Christ from all public places and immorality would not even be considered.  Our country’s forefathers did have the God-given wisdom to grant this nation freedom of speech and religion. However, modern political leaders, who have adopted and embraced a humanistic philosophy, are systematically working to remove these rights from our society.  Their intention is to replace the laws of God with the carnal laws of man.

In this “land of the free” unbelievers are still in bondage to their sins.    Our government does not make us free from the eternal penalty of this nation’s transgressions.  This freedom, which is from above, can only be achieved by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  This country may have the freedom of speech and worship, but we are still under the penalty of eternal death, if we do not accept this wonderful truth, about the only Savior, Jesus Christ.

In I John 3:4, Jesus tells us:

4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.(KJV)

And the Apostle Paul explains the severe consequences of man’s transgressions.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom 6:23 (KJV).

We human beings will never be without sin.  This is explained by the apostle John in I John 1:8-10:

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.(KJV)

So, if we can never be without sin, we can never be truly free unless there is a way for us to be forgiven and not fall under the penalty of death.  God offers us true freedom, through the blood of His only Son, Jesus Christ.  God wants us to succeed.  He wants us to be free.

Those of us who have children, know what the father in Luke 15 felt like in the parable of the prodigal son.  Parents are so willing to go to the ends of the earth to love their children no matter what they do or say.  If we see any sign of sorrow in them when they make mistakes, we want to take them in our arms and forgive and love them.  This is how God feels about each and every one of us.

In Ephesians 1:6-7 the Apostle Paul tells us of Gods willingness to forgive and love us:

6  To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (KJV)

God loves us so much that He was willing to give up His only Son so we could be saved.  He wants us to have every chance, even up to the last minute, to accept the sacrifice of Christ, obey His commandments and live forever in His Kingdom.

16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). (KJV)

In the Kingdom of God, mankind will be freed from bondages, addictions and all the other devices of Satan, which have plagued mankind since the fall of man. We will also be freed from another bondage, the bondage of depending on man made government to direct our lives.  God is going to lead us to the fountains of living waters.  Not to the pathway that leads to destruction.  That’s what happens when our allegiance is to man and his form of governments.  In the Kingdom of God, there will be no more tears.  There will be no more poor and suffering people.  There will be no more welfare.  There  will be work for everyone.  We will all be working to make this a wonderful place for all to live.  Every person will feel worthy and fulfilled.  In the Kingdom of God we as spirit beings will be truly free.

In Revelations 7:17 and Revelations 21:4-5, God reveals to us the how wonderful life will be under His form of government:

(Rev 7:17).
For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes (KJV)

Rev 21:4-5
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. (KJV)

I believe this country has mistakenly placed its allegiance and  its affections in the wrong directions. We need to turn our affections above and show as much enthusiasm and loyalty to God as we do the flag and this land.  Then we would truly be free.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.  3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God (Col 3:2-3). (KJV)

My Pledge Of Allegiance

I pledge allegiance, to God and His Son, who God sent to save us and set us free.

Upon God’s awesome righteousness I stand, in Jesus Christ.

One forgiven sinner, redeemed under the blood of the Lord Jesus.

Where there is true liberty and justice for all.

In this county we often ask God to “Bless America.”  Maybe, it's time for “America to Bless God.”
