Safe In His Care
by Milford
Bowen
In this day and age
of drive-by shootings and bus-stop stabbings people often are fearing for
their safety. Parents in some neighborhoods are afraid to let their children
go outdoors to play. Even adults claim they don’t leave their apartment or
home because of fear of being harmed. Security is heightened and police
forces are increased, and even volunteers patrol some neighborhoods.
Living in fear is certainly
not what God had in mind for His children. “For God hath not given us the
spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (II Timothy
1:7). We need to claim that in our lives and determine to not let the spirit
of fear control our way of life. We claim the promises of God’s Word to
overcome our fears.
“Say to them that are of a
fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with
vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you” (Isaiah
35:4). God will come and save you.
The Bible says God is our
refuge and strength. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though
the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;” (Psalm 46:1-2). A
refuge is a shelter or a place that provides protection from danger. We know
of wildlife refuges or places of refuge for duck and geese. These are places
of protection for animals and birds. God provides protection for us, His
children.
In times of trouble or
danger we can go to Him, and we will not fear because we are in a safe
place. “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in
him will I trust” (Psalm 91:2). This Psalm is full of promises for our
protection and safety.
Are you afraid to go out at
night? “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow
that flieth by day;” (Psalm 91:5).
God takes care of His
children when we put our trust in Him “Because thou hast made the LORD,
which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil
befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall
give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalm
91:9-11). God has promised to keep us safe. His angels have charge over us
What great protection we have!
Are you afraid to go to
sleep at night? “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou,
LORD, only makest me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8).
“But
whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of
evil” (Proverbs 1:33). God wants us to dwell safely and be quiet from fear
of evil. These promises are in God’s Word so we can be free from fear and
can live quiet and peaceful lives in the safety of His love, with His angels
in charge over us. In spite of the terror of the times we live in, we can be
free from fear, and safe in His care and keeping.
“For thou, LORD, wilt bless
the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield” (Psalm
5:12)
Have a great day walking
forth surrounded by His hedge of protection about you. --bb

Safe am I, Safe am I
In the hollow of His
hand.
No ill can harm me,
No foe alarm me,
For He keeps me day and
night.
Safe am I, Safe am I
In the hollow of His
hand.
